Future plans

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

I am busy making plans for the future. When you raise dogs I find it is important to have plan A, B and C laid out as life can take some unexpected turns. This is a lesson we learned in spades when we bred Keely last winter.
Keely will be bred to Ocean State’s Clifford. I have loved that guy since I first laid eyes on him as a puppy and his breeder Stephanie, a wise woman, was not willing to part with him. Instead we have moved to Plan B and will send Keely off to Rhode Island to breed to him next month. The risk associated with summer  is that it may be too hot for her to fly so then we will move to Plan C and have semen flown in and we will AI her in Okotoks at Elizabeth Street Vet Clinic where Marco the vet does a great repro work.
Maddie should cycle in late September October and I am hopeful that our simple plan of taking her to Praire Doodles – 90 minutes away will result in exceptional natural breeding to Gail’s new stud muffin Hunter. He possesses impressive size and substance and an endearing personality that my husband Darren fell in love with. He descends from a well known therapy line so we are excited to add that line to our program so we will be holding back a breeding female. As Maddie is a parti and he is a lovely red we are looking forward to apricot and red puppies with nice white markings.
Hilo has started her testing and will finish up later this month. She is having her first heat cycle so i expect that we will have a spring litter available from her and some stunning red boy. Our most recent breeding prospect Koda is settled in with her guardian family in Lethbridge and is enjoying a summer camping holiday. Avalon will be spayed and will enjoy life as our pampered pet and true companion on our life’s journey. She is such an amazing dog and given us such enthusiasm for the multigen labradoodle:)
