Future plans

July 10th, 2010

I am busy making plans for the future. When you raise dogs I find it is important to have plan A, B and C laid out as life can take some unexpected turns. This is a lesson we learned in spades when we bred Keely last winter.
Keely will be bred to Ocean State’s Clifford. I have loved that guy since I first laid eyes on him as a puppy and his breeder Stephanie, a wise woman, was not willing to part with him. Instead we have moved to Plan B and will send Keely off to Rhode Island to breed to him next month. The risk associated with summer  is that it may be too hot for her to fly so then we will move to Plan C and have semen flown in and we will AI her in Okotoks at Elizabeth Street Vet Clinic where Marco the vet does a great repro work.
Maddie should cycle in late September October and I am hopeful that our simple plan of taking her to Praire Doodles – 90 minutes away will result in exceptional natural breeding to Gail’s new stud muffin Hunter. He possesses impressive size and substance and an endearing personality that my husband Darren fell in love with. He descends from a well known therapy line so we are excited to add that line to our program so we will be holding back a breeding female. As Maddie is a parti and he is a lovely red we are looking forward to apricot and red puppies with nice white markings.
Hilo has started her testing and will finish up later this month. She is having her first heat cycle so i expect that we will have a spring litter available from her and some stunning red boy. Our most recent breeding prospect Koda is settled in with her guardian family in Lethbridge and is enjoying a summer camping holiday. Avalon will be spayed and will enjoy life as our pampered pet and true companion on our life’s journey. She is such an amazing dog and given us such enthusiasm for the multigen labradoodle:)

The photos below are of the Bradford family of Calgary who are a great family who adpoted Higgins. The next photo is Hunter of Prairie Doodles and the last two are Ocean State’s  Clifford

Farewells

June 20th, 2010

We have been busy the last couple of weeks so I haven’t been able to keep the blog updated.
My sister in law Connie passed away unexpectedly almost 2 weeks ago. Connie was very involved with our puppies and helped me out while I worked. She adored the labradoodles – especially Avalon and I will miss her often but especially when we have a new litter as she was always so excited about new puppies:)
This past weekend the puppies stared to go. Tiger and Lily( dark caramel boy and caramel and white girl) will spend their lives together in the Northwest Territories, Higgins(cream boy)will live with a lively family in Calgary, Duke of Chambers(caramel boy) will live in St Albert with a young family and Koda our red girl will be a member of the Rathwell family in Lethbridge.
We will take Max (heavy marked parti) to the airport next weekend where he will fly to a a great life that is waiting for him in Halifax and Ginger (caramel girl) will leave in early July to St Albert and soon to be followed by parti boy who will also live in the Edmonton area. We continued to be blessed with the perfect family for each puppy:)

Available Puppies

June 2nd, 2010

We have three great boys available. Keely’s black little curly mini boy is adorable and loves attention just like his mom. He will mature to 20-25 lbs.

Avalon’s 2 parti boys are stunning. I will keep one of the two back to test as a breeding prospect. The only significant difference between the two is that one has more markings and a looser fleece but both have great bone and substance and very calm and social temperments. They enjoy visitors and being played with.

Wow it is hard to imagine these little fellas will be leaving us in two weeks!

They have been such a content group. We have met two of the puppy families and we know that these guys have a great future awaiting them. Recently a litle girl asked me how I can let them go as she thought she would cry if she had to. I assured her that I have cried when some have left but what always makes it easier is knowing the wonderful homes that the puppies have found -and getting emals and photos of our puppies helps too:)

Avalon’s puppies @ 5 weeks

May 29th, 2010

The puppies have really matured this week. They are eating puppy meals and they are loving when we come to the pen to see them. I wish we had nice weather so I could take them outside but they enjoy playing in the pen and I am adding toys for stimulation and a crate so they can start to sleep in it.

May 22nd, 2010

Keely’s puppies have been spending the last week learning how to eat from a dish, drink water and using the puppy litter box. This week we will introduce the crate. We had a few visitors today and the puppies enjoyed being held by adults and kids. We gradually expose them to new sights and sounds so when  they go to their new families in three weeks they will be able to adjust to their new environments more easily.
